February Picture Round-up

Thanks for being patient with me and this blog! In some ways I am more "off the grid" here than I was in Bolivia! We don't have internet at our house and it isn't easy getting online at the coffee shop, so this blog has gotten very neglected! I am also finding that moving a family of eleven for the fifth time in about a year and half has been almost my undoing! I feel like all I do is pack and unpack, organize, sort, get rid of things, and then do it all over again.... Okay, enough about that, on to the blog for February. It is mostly going to be pictures with a bit of commentary...

The first place we stayed was at Uncle Tim and Aunt Diane's house. How peaceful it was. Each night for the first few weeks we were home I remember thinking about how quiet it was. No dogs barking, horns honking, or loud parties... ahhh, just quiet!

Because Uncle Tim, by nationality is full Dutch, Aunt Diane decorates with cute Dutch items. These wooden shoes fit Paula perfectly. I thought she was sooo cute in them!
Paula my little Dutch girl!
Our business, Main Street Espresso and Bakery in Yoncalla, Oregon has gotten lots of our time and attention since we have been home. I thought to bring a camera for David's first visit to the coffee shop!
So many treats, so little time!!!
The first weekend home we shared a "welcome home" party with Chris and Lisa and their family, (Chris is Rudi's older brother) who had also just gotten home. Their family spent six months in the Ukraine and Poland. We both had time to share a little about our time outside the country. They sang for us in Polish and Ukrainian, maybe Russian too, it's all Greek to me!!!!

Our next place to stay was with Chris and Lisa. Our adopted kids loved getting to know Chris and Lisa's adopted boys. I am afraid that all the cousins spoiled them rotten!

All of the Chris Boohers are great musicians or singers. They were inspirational to be around, always picking up an instrument and jamming or singing. We were blessed to be able to spend time with them, as they moved to Texas the end of February.
Music, always music!!!
We actually took a short three day trip over to my parents house. They were actually gone during the time we were there and our time was "top secret", so that I could spend most of my time in my mom's giant soaking tub! It was a much needed break. While we were there we celebrated Clara's 11th birthday for the first time! You will see that we celebrated it a couple more times, before it was all said and done!!
Happy Birthday, Clara!

Next on the schedule was Booher Family Reunion at the Oregon Coast. We spent four days with most all of Rudi's family. It was a blessed time!!
More music!

At the family reunion each family is in charge of a meal. We brought sandwich fixings, cookies, chips, and oranges. It turned out so pretty I just had to take a picture. I was still in the "food is sooo yummy here" stage of being home!!
Lunch anyone?
We had a family photo session. I do not have one of the whole extended Booher family. If only Gabe or Eric would send me one...hint, hint!!
Aren't we pretty?

And from another angle!

These two did A LOT of dishes.

We spent a little time settling into our rental house. Must not have thought that was memorable because I don't have any pictures of that event! I was REALLY tired at that point!

Our next stop was over the mountains to visit my side of the family, or at least some of them! We were able to spend several days with Grampa and Grams. It was a blessing to rest there with them. They really pampered us taking us out for a hike and out to lunch one day. We also celebrated David's  fourth birthday and Clara's 11 birthday again with them!
Happy Birthday, Clara!

We enjoyed lots of this... SNOW! This is the first time

The rest of February was taken up with moving in and settling into our house and helping Chris and Lisa get moved and on the road to Texas. Busy month, with lots of fun memories!

Traveling Home

Myles and Peter on the road again...
Our next few months we will be the Bolivian Boohers posting from the U.S.! After two days, five flights, and fifteen hours in "airtime" we arrived safely in Portland, Oregon. All of our children did great! We only had five 50lb bags and some carry-ons. We have figured out that traveling light is the way to do it with a large family and lots of "littles"!
Paula loves to fly!
One of the ways we are old fashioned is our children don't have any electronic devices, i.e. iPhones, iPads, Kindles, etc. I think we were the only people traveling that didn't! One family waiting in the same area in Panama had a computer/phone for every single family member, including the five year old with his very own teddy bear covered iPad! Our kids lugged along some good ole' hardback books to read!
Clancy chillin' w/ a REAL book,
a rare sight!

Playtime in the Panama airport!

Rudi and Clara happy travelers!
Emily, David, and Lauren. David remembered Lauren
from when she stayed with us in Bolivia for four months!!
We were met at the airport by Uncle Tim and Aunt Diane. We then met up with Uncle Chris and Aunt Lisa and family, along with our friend Lauren Dealy. We had a delicious picnic lunch... brrr... that Aunt Diane had fixed for us! The food is so YUMMY here!!!
Chillin" with cousins... Literally!!
After three years of summer in Cochabamba we sure felt the cool weather! Winter is one of my favorite seasons, so we are looking forward to experiencing the cold!
Picnic with family! It is good to be home for a visit!

January Picture Round-up

Swing Pile!
The month of January was spent at Lago Angostura. I am doing one long blog of all the highlights and low lights!!
May I have this dance?

I think Ruth and Paula were the instructors.
January was FULL of last minute paperwork having to do with becoming citizens of Bolivia and our first adoption check up. One of the bummer things at the beginning of the year, was that neither Rudi nor I had our drivers licenses for two weeks, due to a step in the paperwork process. This meant lots of public transportation. One morning we headed out to catch a truffi at 5:30 a.m. As we were walking out to the road I smelled something that smelled really sweet, it was the cactus that only open their blooms when it is overcast, a rarity in Cochabamba, and before the sun come up for the day. The next morning Rudi and Myles went out early to take some pictures for me of the blooms. They are really beautiful and smell amazing! So I guess our lack of transportation allowed us to "stop and smell the cactus"!
Cactus Blooms

Stunning!
I really like these cactus flowers!!!

In January we also had many visitors, but some of our favorites were from Peru. This family made us a huge lunch of Peruvian food. It was SUPER delicious!! We hope to visit this family in Lima sometime. Definitely new friends for life!
Enjoying our new friends and food from Peru!
Rudi and Myles showing our friends how to play the violin!

Daddy time!
During the month of January, Clancy turned 13!
Happy Birthday, Clancy!

Time for extra art projects!
We also faced a lot of sickness in the month of January. Peter and Emily got some kind of nasty sickness in their mouths, along with fevers, sore throats, and the general "mal estar"!
Essential oils to the rescue,,,

Myles keeping a sick Emily company!
Another unusual thing we experienced was washing ALL our clothes and bedding by hand. Each day it took about an hour and a half. I had lots of help and it wasn't as bad as it sounds. Thankfully, the weather was mostly sunny, so that helped to get things dry.
Rudi on clothes washing duty!
We did have one HUGE storm that dumped a couple of inches in less than an hour. Our yard looked like a lake with a river running through one side.
Our yard covered in water.

quiet time out by the lake.

I mentioned that the month was full of paperwork. Our kids got really good at waiting in public buildings.
Waiting for Carnets at SEGIP
I didn't think to take a picture of the lines, but they serve about 1,000 people a day starting at 7 a.m. Needless to say there are LOTS of people and LONG lines!
You can tell they came prepared!

Picnic time again!

Another wash morning. Most of the children and Rudi took turns

Last picture with braces. Hooray!

Coffee break with our friend Danyelle Graves!
The end of January found us packing everything up for our six month trip to the States. We had to pack not only for our travels, but also for our return in August. Kirsten and Amber, the ladies that are renting our "old" house, graciously allowed us to store our things for our return in a room in the house. They also hosted us our last day in Bolivia and fed us a delicious dinner. Thank you, Amber and Kirsten!
Group picture with Kirsten and Amber right before leaving
for the Cochabamba airport!
A large group came to see us off. The picture below is some of the ones we got to stand still for a picture! We have so many lovely friends in Cochabamba. We are going to miss them while we are in the States. Our family is ready for a break from Bolivia, though! We also are looking forward to introducing our adopted children to their family in the U.S. and allowing them to pick up some English!!!
